Rainflow Matrix for Switching Random Loads
نویسنده
چکیده
Often fatigue tests of materials are performed with constant amplitude loads. When dealing with variable amplitude loads, like random loads, one forms equivalent load cycles. The now commonly used cycle counting method is rainflow counting which was introduced by Endo in 1968. The equivalent definition of rainflow cycles as illustrated in Figure 1 is due to Rychlik [5]. The fatigue life of a component is often based on the Palmgren-Miner damage hypothesis together with the rainflow cycle method.

A High Efficiency Low-Voltage Soft Switching DC–DC Converter for Portable Applications
This paper presents a novel control method to improve the efficiency of low-voltage DC-DC converters at light loads. Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) converters have poor efficiencies at light loads, while pulse frequency modulation (PFM) control is more efficient for the same cases. Switching losses constitute a major portion of the total power loss at light loads. To decrease the switching losses...

Pär Johannesson Department of Mathematical Statistics, Lund Institute of Technology, Lund University, Sweden ABSTRACT: How does the fatigue damage to a vehicle depend on the usage of the vehicle? When it is used in its natural environment by a customer, both the drivers and the environmental properties vary in a more or less random way. One can say that the vehicle is subjected to a series of d...
متن کاملRainnow Cycles for Switching Processes with Markov Structure
The concept of rainnow cycles is often used in fatigue of materials for analysing load processes, which in most realistic cases should be modelled stochastically. Methods are developed for computation of the rainnow matrix for random loads that are changing properties over time due to changes of the system dynamics. For a random vehicle load the change of properties could reeect diierent drivin...
متن کاملCatcher Bearing Life Prediction Using a Rainflow Counting Approach
Catcher bearings (CB) are an essential component for rotating machine with active magnetic bearings (AMBs) suspensions. The CB’s role is to protect the magnetic bearing and other close clearance component in the event of an AMB failure. The contact load, the Hertzian stress, and the sub/surface shear stress between rotor, races, and balls are calculated, using a nonlinear ball bearing model wit...
متن کاملStatistical Modelling of Lateral Vehicle Loads
A way of describing lateral acceleration for fatigue assessments is discussed. The purpose of the model is to parameterise the different sources of the fatigue load, such as the operating environment and the influence of the driver. The measured lateral acceleration is modelled with an approximative curvature, and the average speed explaining centripetal acceleration in the curve. The differenc...
